THE PROCESS
Creating linocuts is a laborious and hands-on process that involves several steps. First, I carefully select an image I want to turn into a print. This image is then transferred onto a linoleum block using tracing paper.
Next, using specialist carving tools, I thoroughly carve a design into a linoleum block, leaving raised surfaces to be subsequently covered with oil ink. Once done with carving out the picture, I apply quality color oil onto the linoleum block using a roller.
Then, I carefully place a sheet of relief paper on the top of the inked linoleum block and hand-press it using a spoon. This way, the ink from the raised areas is transferred onto the paper, creating the final print. As I print every item individually, they may differ slightly, thus becoming unique and inimitable! Each linocut print is an original artwork, not a digitally reproduced image. All linoleum art pieces bear my personal signature as an artist.
This process allows me to create a one-of-a-kind linocut print that captures the essence of the image I have chosen.
